10 Quick Qs – The K of D – Kate Englefield
1. What, where, when and how much?
The K of D by Laura Schellhardt
The Stables, AC Arts – 39 Light Square, Adelaide (view map)
15th, 16th, 17th March 8:30pm
Adults – $15, concession and Fringe Benefits – $12.50
2. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less.
Fast -paced, wickedly funny and endlessly haunting… a summertime ghost story about a girl with lethal lips…
3. A quote/moment that stands out from your show?
There is a moment in the show when the ‘bad guy’ Johnny has a string of ridiculous girlfriends – one who is missing her front teeth, one drunkard who tried to pick up all the boys in the front row (so watch out if you end up in the front row…!) and one who smokes about 20 cigarettes at a time… they are all hilarious and so much fun to play.
4. Is heckling allowed?
Yes… as long as your don’t yell “he’s behind youuuuuu” pantomime style, cos I’ll know you’re lying… cos it’s a one person show….
5. What is your role in the show?
Wow… big question…. well, I play 13 different characters that make up the town of St Mary’s, Ohio. I play a mute girl, a girl who loves violence, a greasy Dodge-driving asshole, a kindly old man, a dude with a big mouth, a skanky chick who smokes bubblegum cigarettes, the town sherrif’s two sons, a Southern belle, a grumpy old man and the string of girlfriends… who change often and rarely wash their hair…
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A grumpy spinster with a lot of cats… who talks to herself… or any of the other 12 people in her head…
7. If you could put on (or be in) any show/band in the world, which one would it be?
Anything with sequins…. lots of sequins. This show has a definite lack of sequins… none in fact.
8. Biggest accolade/compliment you’ve received about your show?
Well no-ones seen it yet have they?! The team I’m working with say it’s spectacular.. but they have to say that… don’t they? Seriously though it is gorgeous and the show has gotten absolutely rave reviews in the US.
9. Why would someone not come to see your show?
If they don’t like fun, beautiful design, skillful acting (if I do say so myself…) and stunning soundscapes… then maybe they should steer clear…
10. Besides your show, what’s your pick for the Fringe?
Erm… there are so many this year….! I like more ‘under the radar’ types (maybe cos I’m skint / cheap…) so I go for quantity and my picks are pretty much always amazing quality too. So, I’m looking at stuff like ‘Marathon’, ‘Louise and the Tornadoes’, ‘I Heart Jack’, “Everybody Does Love Songs’ and on my list every year is the Op Shop Tour!
