You think you have scene exciting chase scenes in Hollywood movies? Think again.
In Flipside Circus‘ forty-five minute acrobatic extravaganza, That Way, everything is about the chase.
What begins as a minor scuffle, results in ‘the longest chase scene ever witnessed’.
Right from the first second, the electric beats and dynamic lighting, set the stage for some eye-popping circus tricks.
The first few moments of order are quickly shattered when the troupe descends into an explosion of movement, which is chaotic yet completely synchronous motion.
It’s both disorderly and beautiful at the same time.
The cast who are all teenagers, including a 12-year old acrobat extraordinaire, are all extremely confident, ridiculously flexible and stupendously talented. At times the show feels like you’re watching an animated cartoon show, except the cast here are all human.
There are a number of gravity-defying moments; a couple of boys toss a little girl around like she’s a doll, then the girls do the same to the youngest star of the show, the boys also perform a juggling sequence – sometimes standing on another person’s shoulders. My personal favourite was a sequence where one of the acrobats starts juggling a few handkerchiefs, but this quickly descends into a flurry of jugglers with many different coloured fabrics – a beautiful collage of colours and movement. Special mentions to the little girl in the hamster wheel-esque sequence and the tiny star (pictured) who defies gravity in his tricks with the tissu.
Kudos to the entire cast for a brilliant production.
This is a must see show.
Heckler recommends getting a seat up front and centre, although you’re probably guaranteed a good view all round.
Pro-tip: This is an all ages gig, so take the family along – kids, young and old, will all love it.
