In a world at war… Two brothers… and their magic fish… must travel to the ends of the universe to find their uncle.
This summer, the creator of Swamp Juice, brings you a sci-fi tale with a lot of heart… Slapdash Galaxy…
Imagine giant spiders, strange planets, mushroom clouds…
Now imagine this in a theatre… in a shadow puppetry show.
That’s right. Forget all you think you know about shadow puppetry and prepare to have your mind blown in Mr. Bunk’s latest shadow extravaganza.
Jeff Achtem’s loveable character Mr. Bunk, is a bumbling, chaotic, clumsy and disorganised (yet resourceful) shadow puppeteer. Part mad scientist, part busker, Mr. Bunk makes sure there’s never a dull moment.
While he looks like he makes it all up as he goes along, the special effects in the show clearly show the amount of hard work that goes into a production like this.
His extremely charming storytelling style brings out your inner kid who hangs on to every word and is dazzled by every trick.
Mr. Bunk’s shadows aren’t limited to just a screen. No, they travel all around the theatre, on the roof, on the walls and even on people’s heads.
It’s like going to the IMAX for shadow puppetry.
In his curtain call, Mr. Bunk, while displaying genuine gratitude, sums up the show perfectly, “It’s all a bit ridiculous, isn’t it!”.
Heckler recommends that if there was one show you were going to see this Fringe, make it this one.*
Pro-tip: Take as many friends as possible (the more the merrier) and sit right at the front for the best view.
You can read Mr. Bunk’s Q&A here.
*Yes, it might be early days, but this show will certainly be amongst the best the Fringe has to offer.
