10 Quick Qs – Live on Air with Poet Laureate Telia Nevile
1. What, where, when and how much?
Live On Air With Poet Laureate Telia Nevile (website)
Tuxedo Cat – The Blue Room (view map)
Until Sat 3rd March (no show Wednesday) at 8.45pm
Adult $18 | Conc. & Groups $15 | Fringe Benefits $12 – Buy Tickets
2. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less.
A word-obsessed poet broadcasts a pirate radio show from her bedroom. Love, language, grammar Grindcore and erotic slash fiction.
3. A quote/moment that stands out from your show?
Grammar Grindcore is always a galvanising moment – there’s nothing like a little death metal to really drive home a few pertinent points about the perils of punctuation.
4. Is heckling allowed?
Poetry isn’t generally a participation sport, but if anyone wants a rap battle I say bring it.
5. What is your role in the show?
I write, produce and perform it. I also made my own costume t-shirts = “You Can Ring My Bell Jar” and “Rimbaud Built My Hotrod”.
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
The first Australian Poet Laureate…or the front-poet of a punk/hip hop outfit that tours the world and spends long periods of time doing epic gigs in exotic places.
7. If you could put on (or be in) any show/band in the world, which one would it be?
An ongoing role in ‘Community’ or ‘Downton Abbey’ would be pretty amazing. I’d also love to be onstage with bands like Gang of Four, the Pixies or Outkast. Maybe me and Jay-Z could form a double act?
8. Biggest accolade/compliment you’ve received about your show?
A lady last night said I was carrying on Oscar Wilde’s legacy. It’s is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me, hands down.
9. Why would someone not come to see your show?
If you’re not into words, this show is not in your wheelhouse. People looking for straight stand-up, lots of visual gags or something light and easy might not get into the vibe, but if you love language and want something to sink your chops into then I would be pleased and proud to have you along.
10. Besides your show, what’s your pick for the Fringe?
Dr Brown’s adult show – entirely unpredictable and endlessly inventive. You’ll either love it or hate it, either way you’ve seen something unforgettable and completely different which is what Fringe is all about.
