LET me preface this review by saying that glitzy, glamorous cabaret isn’t really my thing. But Lovebirds, as it is so affectionally named, is a show that I’m sure our glitzy-cabaret-loving readers will just absolutely adore. Let me explain.
The show’s beginnings deceptively make you feel as though you are watching a show written by a heart-broken man who has just started learning Italian, or maybe French. The lighting is low, the mood is even lower and no one is really sure what to think.
And then BAM. Out comes the sex, the raunchiness and oh so much glitter. And light. And sequins. And did we mention sex?
The singing is just amazing. The humour is fantastic – each of the four actors brings something different to the table – they are all incredibly talented and work perfectly together. You’ll probably fall in love with these curious creatures, the Lovebirds, as they take you on their journey of love and well, sex.
This still doesn’t make me like this kind of cabaret – the over-the-top glittery thing just ain’t my thing. But it might be yours.
