While the concept isn’t completely unheard of, theatre in the dark is still a rarely used technique. And even rarer still is the correct execution. But under Martha Lott’s direction, this performance is completely, even unnaturally so, in the dark.
In this show, we’re made privy to what begins as a sexual romp between two lovers, but quickly spirals into a heart-breaking, bitchy and nostalgic quarrel.
I don’t want to give too much away about the show, so I won’t describe the plot, but Ben Schiffer’s (lead writer on Skins) script is crisp, biting and most importantly, real.
The two actors do very well to get such an emotionally strong script across to their audience by just the use of their voices. The theatre too, with it’s extremely intimate seating, is the perfect choice for this piece. It’s only half an hour long, but it still takes you on quite a journey.
While bigger shows like Soap and Tom Thum get all the attention, shows like this are what make the Fringe an exciting time of the year. They’ve got quite a few performances, so there’s no excuse to miss it.
