The Bearded Gypsy Band [Australia]
1. Describe your music Twitter style, 140 characters or less.
An eclectic blend of gypsy, jazz, folk, blues and latin with a twist of flavours thats have been described as Nick Cave meets Andrew Bird meets Django Reinhardt.
2. First album you purchased?
Get Born – Jet
3. First gig you went to?
It was a at a small RSL in the Adelaide Hills and all the bands were local, mostly school friends.
4. Favourite song?
Oh tough, I can’t honestly answer that… But some that I’m fond of include For Emma (Bon Iver), Bitches Brew (Miles Davis), La vie en Rose (Louis Armstrong) and so many more!
5. A compelling reason to come see your gig?
Do you like dancing? Do you like sitting? Do you like standing arms folded nodding your head? Do you like Tom? Can you do the twist? We found that people who said yes to any of these things often have a great time!
6. Your best track?
Depends… come along and tell us what you think.
7. Your single biggest musical influence?
Tricky question! We draw influence from all around the world and from hundreds of different styles and cultures, sorry I can’t answer that one better!
8. If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?
If I wasn’t a musician I would most likely be a nomad… I love the Idea of traveling the world meeting new people and learning about their cultures… and I would do that until I ran out of money, then try my luck at publicity or psychology.
9. If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be?
I think it would be amazing to collaborate with an artist like Andrew Bird. His work has influenced us a fair bit and I would love to see the result of the mix of styles! Plus – the man can whistle like no other!
10. Who are you looking forward to seeing at WOMAD?
Womad has yet again pulled out an amazing line up! We are going to try and catch as many artists as possible! To name a few: Jinja Safari, Baaba Maal, First Aid Kit, Dirty Three, Blue King Brown, Tete, Chapelier Fou, Nano Stern and The Sindicato, Chris Finnen and Jay Hoad… There really are too many to name! Can’t Wait!
