1. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less!
@idiotsofants perform high octane theatrical sillinesses #MICF #tryingtobeasfunnyaspossible PLEASE RT
2. Since you’re a comedian, is there a lot of pressure to be funny on a first date?
We at Idiots Of Ants don’t tend to get dates. When you spend as much time as we do in the company of three other men your personal hygiene levels dip to such an impossible low that the girls don’t even want to stand to close to us let alone date us. We have very windy bottoms.
3. Speaking of, what’s your ideal date activity?
Dinner, a movie, dancing, an engagement, a long marriage, three kids and a messy divorce. And if that goes well then hopefully we will exchange numbers and do it again some time?
4. A movie that made you cry?
The Phantom Menace. Why George? Why?
5. What do you do when you get sad?
We don’t get sad. Life is good. We do comedy for a living! We do a 7 hour week, we don’t have a boss and we can drink beer at work. We can’t believe our luck!
6. When and/or why did you decide to become a comedian?
We all performed at the Edinburgh festival as students but found ourselves drawn away from the plays (boring) and towards the stand ups.
In 2007 we all got together, chose a name, wrote our first sketch and booked our first gig. As soon as we heard our that audience laugh we were addicted. We didn’t want to be comics, we needed to be comics. Comedy chose us.
7. Favourite comedian?
Wow. Big question. Comedy has lots of different categories. We all love the silent era of Buster Keaton, the wit of Woody Allen and the skits of Monty Python. At the festival this year there are some great shows that we can recommend having seen them at the Edinburgh Festival. Alex Horne’s show Seven Years in the Bathroom is awesome, Dr Brown and Paul Foot are both wonderful and Daniel Kitson is just about as funny as it is possible to be.
8. What do you want to be when you grow up?
When Jim grew up he dreamed of being an accountant. We are pleased to announce that he is well on his way to achieving this dream… he has memorised all of the numbers up to 3628!
Ben wanted to build a death star.
Andy’s ambition was always to eat his height (5’9’) in Subway sandwiches (Meatball, no salad, extra ranch dressing). He achieved his ambition at breakfast time on his eighteenth birthday… and again at lunch.
Elliott wanted to be a frog.
9. Funniest YouTube clip you’ve seen?
A couple of years ago we made a Facebook video with the BBC called Facebook in Real Life. It came out at the time when everyone was starting to use social media, and, because it hit a zeitgeist, it went viral achieving several million hits in about a week. The most fun we have had on YouTube was watching the videos of people who have copied our script and done their own versions of our sketch. Some of them are really good… there are some Germans who have done one, two tiny eight year old girls and a church group. Very funny indeed, don’t watch our video, watch theirs!
10. Which artist/comedian are you looking forward to seeing at the Festival?
