COMEDY loving Melburnians packed in to Capitol Theatre to see US comedian Wanda Sykes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and The New Adventures of Old Christine fame. From the moment Sykes took the stage she had the audience under her slightly self-deprecating spell, stalking the stage with her instantly recognisable afro.
Sykes commentary on the state of the US was hysterical, she was caught lamenting on the state of the economy and how difficult it is for rich people like herself to openly have a good time, an audience highlight came when Sykes recounted the time she was thought to be supporting the Occupy Wall Street campaign, when in fact she was on her way to a meeting with her broker.
The story of visiting the aquarium with her young, bilingual, French-speaking children to see the seal exhibit (‘seal’ is ‘phoque’ in French) rounded out the show and had the audience leaving in stitches. Très bien indeed!
