Touring their second album: ‘L’, New South Welsh trio Elephant have brought their mammoth sound to the Ed Castle for the Fringe – and they are not messing around.
Elephant’s sound draws from fringe metal sounds of the 90’s, but the bass, drum and synth line-up brings a quirky sci-fi bent to much of their set. Consummate drumming, dense and roiling bass and some thought-provoking synth work – all turned up to eleven – gave an appreciative crowd their recommended daily dose of metal – and then some.
The boys make creative use of their vocal talents, eschewing the full-metal scream in favour of more lyrical vocals, black whistling and some of the finest gibberish I’ve ever seen on stage. Thematically Elephant’s songs are inspired by 70’s horror films and fantastic narratives of their own creation, in parts the dissonant themes in simultaneous vocal tracks clashed against each other creating an intricate cacophony sure to appeal to those with metal in the veins.
They came, they saw, they melted some ears. If you’re keen on some avant-garde metal or just a noisy night out, check out Elephant for some big-beastly sound.
