The show is called Every Breath – The Music of Sting and I guess this led me down the garden path of false expectations. Those expectations being, songs of Sting in his life as the front man of The Police.
Until interval we were regaled with the music of Sting, the solo artist. While the band was technically solid and the singers talented, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
However after interval something changed, wait! What was that? I sent out an SOS and got a message in a bottle. Finally, the music of The Police had arrived. You could immediately notice the shift in the crowd as a stir crept over this once zombie like group of predominantly forty-something’s.
The last remaining tracks were delivered with an energy and vibrancy that took the stir to some conservative head bopping and foot tapping. After all, it was a school night in Adelaide. Unfortunately it took the whole show but we finally got there, and with the delivery of the title track, I was just warmed up and ready to party.
If you are after the music of Sting, come for the whole show, if you want the music of The Police and an entertaining, hand clap inciting good time, sneak in during the interval.
