This was absolutely nothing like I expected and the surprise was a great one. I absolutely love the writing of this piece. It’s lyrical and poetic (Emily Anderson is a poet) and very cleverly works song titles and lyrics from 90’s Britpop period into the story. It was well delivered with a wry sense of humour and a strong sense of irony. The self-deprecation needed to ensure it did not become an ego trip was there as well.
My only real complaint is that in a venue where the audience had to work really hard to get more than 15 feet from the performer she used a microphone on a stand and didn’t move from the spot. It sort of created a barrier. I know she is a poet and I’m more a traditional theatre person but it slightly spoiled the show for me.
