Review – Dave Callan: A Little Less Conversation

The story goes, Dave Callan once graced (or disgraced) the dance floor of Rhino Room and a concept was born…. To force this Gandalf lookalike to entertain and educate through mastering and displaying the power pop dance moves of decades past.
Fortunately this surprisingly agile man was up to the Pepsi Challenge and with assistance from his talented sidekicks Mel and Clare, he has put together a veritable audio-visual feast for the senses to take you from the dances of cave men to the fine art of Gangnam Style.
If you want an entertaining way to get au fait with the recommended dance moves for the next Hot Dub Time Machine, then take Dave’s tutorial. Not only will you see how to twist, then twist again, but you will also pick up some more obscure moves including ‘twerking’ or ‘the grizzly’.
In an effort rivalling that of a comic book super hero, this dance trio has a Wednesday night crowd ‘rollin’ and a strollin’, reeling with the feelin’, movin’ and a groovin’, rocking and a rollin’. In short, laughs, screeches and squeals were common amongst this enthusiastic crowd as we were taken on a journey through the a-z of hip thrusts, boy band power moves and “Dirrty” inspired hair flicks.
Beware, if you are not into audience participation, you may want to steer clear of the front row. Personally, I would recommend front and centre all the way.
If you are a dance floor diva, you will love this show. If however, you have two left feet or in the modern vernacular yo’ booty don’t pop, look to Dave. He is an inspiration to us all.
