Review – Picture This!

If your partner buys you a set of anal beads for Christmas, they’re not actually meant for you. This was one of the many new things I learnt at the Australian debut of Picture This! Hosted by Alexandra Elizabeth Howell, a Canadian who sometimes lies to the police out of politeness, this is a showcase with a twist. As each comedian does their set, Hadley Donaldson doodles their stories on a projector screen. The results are often hilarious, as comic and illustrator jostle for laughs.

Cheerful Canadian DeAnne Smith makes a regular appearance on the show (she assures the audience that although she’s a feminist, she is fluent in bro-speak), and on this night she was joined by Erin Melville, Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall and Bart Freebairn. The lineup changes with each show, but if this one is anything to go by the offering is always top-notch. Picture This! is a funny and innovative crowd-pleaser, and a great show to catch with a group of friends.
