Review – Asaf Gerchak: Is A Terrible Stage Name (CAN)
Venue: The Horse Bazaar

For those of you who’ve never been to The Horse Bazaar, it’s a tiny little cafe/bar on Little Lonsdale, way down the western end of it. To accommodate a stand up gig, a little stage is constructed over the top of the booth seating at the back-end of the place. As the crowd packed itself in to the space available, a small collection of seats, front and centre of the stage, remained conspicuously empty. It seems perfectly reasonable to avoid being in a comedian’s eye-line if you don’t want to be singled out, but in a venue this small, whoever’s on the stage can see everyone perfectly.
Gerchak is a funny dude, for sure, although his show doesn’t run as slick as bigger name comedians. Not that you should avoid seeing him based on that, his material is still very enjoyable. It’s not that he is looking for his voice as a comedian, I’d say it’s more that he’s trimming and polishing it, so it’s a great moment to see him. He’s already a rising name in Montreal (according to his show’s page, at least), and in time will carve himself a place in the international scene, so why not watch him as he does it?
Asaf Gerchak Is a Terrible Stage Name is being performed every day until April 6th except for Fridays, never Fridays.
