Tegan’s show throws you into the world of her two heroes – Brendan Fevola and Harry Potter. Their hidden similarities magically appear when their virtues are comically extolled through personal anecdotes.
And as you will see, she needs these heroes to sustain her. Fev’s offerings to Tegan are particularly important and provide the biggest laughs. His public displays of embarrassment are re-narrated to draw out chuckles and chortles from misadventure.
Adding to the fun, her play on words and irony about Fev takes Harry Potter references from PG to naughty.
Particularly humourous, is Tegan’s re-telling of her school days. Puns and innuendo are spiced in between her main narrative to keep up the energy and uncertainty as to where the story will lead. Her interaction with the audience is decent banter, and also provides plenty of laughs. Tegan manages, very well, to keep us on the edge our seats as we travel with her.
Her enthusiastic stories, occasional characterisations and mind-set give you an uplifted ‘Up there Cazaly’ kind of dizzy fun that you can take home. Her ideological impact is also relatively long-lasting and you start to think about how we judge our heroes. But a word of warning: be careful which hero you choose.
