On the way to the show my partner and I were reminiscing about the Doug Anthony All Stars and how new and different they had been in their time. They swore like troopers and used truly inappropriate metaphors and yet you found yourself laughing until you cried because there was no denying they were funny.
Tim Ferguson’s show was full of reminiscences, and though it was not as filthy as his earlier work and perhaps not even quite as funny, he still has the ability to entertain a crowd. There were many a chuckle, smirk and belly laugh as Tim told the stories of the Doug Anthony days and life beyond.
In the first part of the show Tim went over the good old days of the Doug Anthony’s and reminded us of the motto they had – that the best entertainment comes from picking a fight with someone. Tim went on to talk about the MS, which broke up the group and the effect it had on his life. It was a funny nostalgic reflection on Tim’s life.
My partner and I lived through the Doug Anthony years. We loved DAS Capital so it stands to reason we enjoyed the show. In talking to other audience members after the show it turns out that you didn’t need to have lived and loved these moments to enjoy Tim’s performance. Some of the “younger folk” laughed along with us “oldies”. It’s definitely a show I would recommend.
