In a cosy (read tiny) room in the belly of the Melbourne Town Hall young comedian Jack Druce performed his ‘Unqualified Life Coach‘ act to a quietly amused crowd. Apparently shaking with nerves he out-performed his insecurities with brilliantly told anecdotes – think high school; overseas adventures and a jazz walrus.
Light-hearted blasphemy and the odd swear word aside, the show is a clean and well executed commentary on current events, his opinions insightful at the ripe old age of twenty-two. Still relatively new to the comedy circuit, Druce takes advantage of the fact that you are likely entering the show with little to no idea of who he is and without expectations. As an Unqualified Life Coach Druce offers some advice that could cost a pretty penny in the office of an unorthodox therapist; if you need new motivational techniques he’s your man.
The combination of the cosy Lunch Room, Jack’s age and the way he tells stories makes you feel as if you are having a one-sided conversation with a witty friend.
And you need not be afraid to sit in the front row as, much to my delight, audience participation is not required.
