For regular comedy fans and fair-weather festival goers alike, there’s something special about this time of year, when well-known and up and coming comedians come from all over the world to share their ideas, perspective, culture and unique personalities with local audiences.
And, dick jokes.
The Best of British is the ultimate variety show for people who love the many comic styles of entertainers from England, Scotland and also theoretically Wales. The lineup changes regularly and there’s a show on every night of the festival, which means if you’re especially lazy but still want some good fresh laughs you could see it more than once and not get bored.
I liked this gig because I was actually laughing the whole time; there was nothing to ‘not get’ and nothing too off colour, yet it definitely got a bit rude at times (in the best possible ways). There was just something about the good-weird vibe and energy of every single one of the five acts on stage that made it a really great show from beginning to end – everyone was just so legitimately happy to be there. It’s a must see if you’re looking for dependable laughs and the opportunity to discover your next favourite British comedian.
