In his latest show The Boy Who Cried Sober, Greg Fleet talks about trying to get on top of his heroin addiction through years of touring, acting and breakfast radio. He tells many stories about trying, often unsuccessfully, to keep his addiction secret, scoring in unfamiliar territory, rehab and even how his show business career has affected his drug life.
The show is intensely personal. Although the jury is out on whether he actually is sober this time, every story feels very honest. Many of the stories of things he has done, procuring, taking or recovering from taking heroin, just aren’t the kind of thing you would usually tell strangers. He gives a great sense of trust to the audience.
Greg Fleet is known for shows dealing with addiction. He talks about how many people told him his comedy helped them overcome their own addictions, despite his being desperately high at the time of the conversation.
I would highly recommend this show to anyone trying to balance some kind of personal life with a substance abuse problem, or to anyone who is just interested in how people can handle those two things together.
