Don’t arrive late to this one unless you have some good heckling lines. This would be my advice as Courtney and the Dutch backpacker would attest to from the performance I attended, who became part of the show in a way that for some could be uncomfortable.
As is the case for a great deal of the observational humour of today, Dave’s material is drawn from his life. The shoe is mostly focussing on his past regrets. Now we all have regrets and many of us may have done some silly things, and perhaps some amongst us wore a Divo hat and regretted it. However I wonder how many of us wore a Divo hat on a train into town, on the way to a concert, in a carriage full of Guns and Roses fans? Dave has a way of relating one thing to another focusing on the absurd to create a story that has the crowd laughing. Interestingly throughout the show many of his stories wend their way back to the Divo hat in the train.
Dave’s stories revolve around life as a teenager in Mitcham, his time in the Boy Scouts and his current life as a dad. Truth be told Dave’s show seems a lot like the kind of conversation you might have with him over a beer. His reflections are very conversational, they are self-deprecating and they are thoroughly entertaining. I would definitely recommend this one.
