Improv at it’s… dirtiest? As they say, every night is different – and perhaps I was among an interesting crowd, but this was definitely a show for the 18+. The 86 is a sensational venue, intimate, good vibes, and on this night, packed.
A troop of five individually comedic actors worked awkwardly together to produce a few skits interrupted by a crude siren signalling challenges and new games.
The host was amazing, the audience played their part and laughter echoed for the entire hour. I certainly wouldn’t call it sophisticated humour, but if you’re after side-splitting laughter you just might get it (after a pint or two) and you may or may not leave feeling guilty about it afterward.
As a younger member of the audience, some of the ‘categories’ suggested were slightly over my head (and knowledge of popular culture) however the delivery by the players was exceptional and I laughed along as if I had a clue. Exploding Heads claim they will have you “gasping for air and wiping away tears” and they almost nail it; at this stage in the festival they may have just cracked it! Definitely a must see if you’re in need of some cheering up.
