REG is a love letter to a star of the stage.
Tommy Bradson takes us on a musical journey of the costumes, characters and charisma that made Reg Livermore a legend of Australian theatre. With a superb band led by Musical Director Jon Thorn and a pair of extraordinarily talented back-up singers, Tommy Bradson owns every moment from somber songs such as ‘Quiet Please, There’s a Lady on Stage’ to showstoppers like the amazing ‘Celluloid Heroes.’ The stock footage included in the tribute allows the audience to be transported back to the seventies making them feel like they were in the company of the man himself.
The various costumes designed by Jenelle Witty were wonderfully extravagant and so closely resembled the originals that they were immediately greeted with a round of applause by the Livermore aficionados. Costume changes were swift and the entire production went off without a hitch.
Having seen all of Bradson’s past festival shows, it was excellent to see him embody one of his major influences and show off his incredible talents to a captivated audience.
The Space Theatre was elegantly styled and packed to the brim with fans. One audience member was overheard saying that she had seen Reg Livermore ‘countless times’ and that Bradson’s portrayal was uncanny. The finale was met with a standing ovation, a clear indication that Tommy Bradson had done the legend justice.
