10 Quick Qs – Nath Valvo
Nath Valvo is coming to Adelaide Fringe to promote his new show. We asked him the pressing questions!
1. Describe your show Twitter-style, 140 character or less!
Birthdays. Painful. Awkward. Puberty. Cake. UDL cans. Blue Light Disco. Ace of Base. Candles. Harry Potter. Ex Girlfriend. Daryl Braithwaite.
2. Do you feel pressured to be funny at family gatherings?
God no! It’s my chance to sit back and watch my embarrassing uncles try and crack gags to the kids table. Always a tough crowd.
3. Is this your first Adelaide Fringe? If so, what are you most looking forward to? If not, what is your least favourite thing about the festival?
This is my second Adelaide Fringe and while I am in love with the festival I am not looking forward to eating most of my dinners from a service station at 11:30 PM. You know those sandwiches that have been on the shelf “fresh” since 1998? Yeah, those ones…
4. What was the most challenging aspect about preparing your show?
My show has a lot of childhood flashbacks. I used old family photo albums for inspiration. My god I was an unattractive child. It explains a lot.
5. If you could be any character in any movie, who and what would it be?
Whoopi Goldberg’s character Sister Mary Clarence in the delightful Sister Act or the family friendly follow up Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. That character involves two of my favourite things – performing in Las Vegas showrooms and singing in all-nun choirs.
6. Who’s your biggest comedic idol?
Pauline Hanson.
7. Is heckling allowed?
Good luck to hecklers! I talk so fast and so loud I believe it to be almost impossible to chime in! But of course it’s welcomed! I’m used to my dad yelling, “Comedy isn’t a career!” at the Xmas lunch table so I am well prepared.
8. What’s your favourite Internet-related guilty indulgence?
Is porn an acceptable answer for this? If so… porn.
9. What is the biggest accolade you’ve received from one of your shows?
A drunk guy came up to me after a show in Sydney once and said ,”Your show wasn’t shit, mate!” So, that was nice?
10. What other Fringe show are you most excited to catch up with?
I really enjoy watching shows that have really bendy people that light themselves on fire and swim through hoops, etc. – all that physical stuff I sometimes attempt after too many shots at night clubs! A show like Limbo.
Almost 30 opens from the 14th February.
