10 Quick Qs – Matt Tarrant
1. Describe your show Twitter-style, 140 character or less!
Award winning in 2012 and 2013. Magic. Mentalism. MindBlown. #dogswearinghats #nofilter
2. How have you used your mentalist or illusionist skills in day-to-day life?
I once got a slightly discounted Café Latte after performing a ten minute routine to a barista. That is probably a career highlight if I’m totally honest.
3. If you could be any character in any movie, who and what would it be?
Frog Zord from the Power Rangers movie. It’s a giant mechanical frog who is a ninja. I mean, I don’t need to say anything else.
4. What’s been the most difficult thing about preparing your new show?
Having to spend less time googling cats on the internet, and more time working with Vinh Giang (which is awful). I also have to spend a lot more time working rather eating chicken nuggets which my body isn’t used to.
5. What’s your favourite Internet-related guilty indulgence?
Cat photos. Dog photos. Rabbit photos. Doge. Sean-James Murphy. Wanking. (In that order).
6. What is the biggest accolade you’ve received from one of your shows?
We won the Bank SA TalkFringe Award in 2012 and 2013 which was pretty cool, and we also sold out completely in those years. A few people told us we were better than Dynamo as well, so hearing them lie to us like that was also nice.
7. Is heckling allowed?
Look, if you really want to but at the end of the day, I will hate you, the audience will hate you, your mum will hate you and I will get security to chuck you out. But yeah, do it. OR you can just enjoy the show like a normal human being.
8. Who is your idol in the world of magic?
David Blaine for his street magic and stuns.
Rudy Coby for getting me into the art.
Derren Brown for being the greatest.
Justin Flom for being my biggest inspiration.
9. If Deception were a cocktail, how would you make it?
Mix a heap of random types of alcohol in a bathtub with bikini-clad women and it would definitely have an umbrella on top with a side serving of Cheezels.
10. What other Fringe show are you hoping to catch up with this Fringe?
Simon Taylor because he is the funniest guy on this planet and cute to boot.
Tom Thum because, he is Tom Thum.
The Boy with Tape on his Face because every year he is incredible.
The Naked Magicians so I can see my mates’ genitals.
