Review – The Syndicate
Ever wanted to join a club where the secret handshake involves jazz hands and a paddle? Let the Syndicate initiate you into their world of mental penetration, terrifying talents and gasp-worthy stunts.
Ringleader Captain Ruin uses clever card tricks to make us question our belief in freedom of choice. Circus strongwoman Ell Bella has us on the edge of her block splitter as she performs risky feats – including one combining the classic bed of nails and a cinder block. Burlesque artist Bam Bam turns from sweet seductress to S&M vixen, coaxing a squeamish audience member to suck whipped cream from all kinds of places. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but that routine sure makes you think twice about male strippers. Each performer’s final piece was memorable and well-executed.
The Syndicate is a fast-paced sideshow, with a good mix of interesting stunts, audience participation, and weird but appealing characters. The threesome successfully weave their divergent skills together into a funny, enjoyable show. A good pick if you want to catch some Garden folk doing what they do best without shelling out for the big name shows.
The Syndicate is absolutely my pick for The Fringe! Its sideshow parody thats deadly serious. 5 stars from me!
This show was MESSED UP! Bloody good time, highly recommended but not for the faint hearted.
I’ll never look at whipped cream the same again.
