Review – Anthropy
Anthropy is led by the enigmatic magician David Dodgen with assistance from the lovely and amazingly-talented Katia Schwartz. The show is the story of their meeting, falling in love, and their ensuing married life together. The romance is interspersed with Dodgen’s magic tricks and Schwartz’s sensual and enthralling dance numbers. Both performers were seamless, captivating and enthusiastic, and the audience interaction was incredible.
The audience was surprisingly small, but it showed the professionalism of the performers that they still put on a great show. And it meant that nearly everyone had a turn on stage as magician’s assistant, which may not be your thing, but is a whole lot of fun when you’re up there.
Standout moments include the trick metamorphosis, which is performed so quickly it was hard to fathom how it was humanly possible, and Katia’s pole performance. The athleticism, artistry and sheer talent displayed in her performance was outstanding and is well worth a look.
The whole show came together really well and was extremely entertaining. It left you wondering how the tricks were actually possible, which is exactly how you want to leave a magic show; in awed disbelief. Watch this show if you want to be entertained by performers who are brilliant at what they do. If you like magic or burlesque, then you will definitely like this show. It is a very impressive offering of both.
