Review – Suck It Up
Stage magicians are special kinds of performers. They work to present unbelievable feats before our very eyes, without the special effects or camera tricks of screen mediums. A good magician will make you consider, even if just for a moment, the possibility that perhaps magic really does exist. Mickster the Trickster manages to do just that in his family-friendly show Suck It Up.
Part comedian, part magician, and even part clown, Mickster wows audiences with card tricks, mind-reading predictions, balloon animals, and everyone’s favourite – audience participation. Charming and self-deprecating, this trickster knows how to entertain both the young and young-at-heart. He freely admits his illusions are merely tricks, utilising the power of suggestion and some complex psychology. But knowing that makes these stunts even more amazing as, regardless of how closely you pay attention, you won’t be able to see how he does it.
His first time at the Fringe, Mickster the Trickster has an impressive confidence and stage presence. His quirky sense of humour and ability to surprise you, just when you think you’ve figured it out, are a good indication this up-and-coming magician is definitely a talent to watch out for.
