Review – Chris Turner: Pretty Fly
Chris Turner is pretty fly (for a very, very white guy). The UK comic has brought his show Pretty Fly to Adelaide, so prepare to get schooled on the old school.
Actually, despite the title, and Turner’s promotional material, hip-hop is more of a back beat than the main event here. He serves up some very slick stand-up, riffing (and sometimes rapping) on a broad range of themes, and he displayed considerable talent for improvisation: both when it was part of the act, and when the spontaneity of electrical légèreté and isolated stage-intrusions forced the matter.
If you enjoy the charm of quirky and ramshackle Fringe shows, but feel an intermittent dull ache for something professional and of good value, see Chris. His intelligence didn’t abandon him when he said goodbye to Oxford University, either, so let this pimply 23-year-old archaeologist take you on a low ride through the west side.
