Airileke [PNG/Australia]
At the more intimate zoo stage venue band members of Airileke got to get up close with enthusiasts, and explain some of the influences and styles of their Melanesian music.
The group taught the audience rhythmic drum patterns to clap along to and the dances that unite the diverse group hailing from areas across Melanesia including Papua New Guinean and the Torres Strait. The workshop setting allowed the musicians to explain the different areas within the region that the music styles come from, and meaning behind the songs and dances.
