Review – Baby et lulu [Australia]

Languid French sounds delivered by Australian franco-phoneys Baby et Lulu. The group is a talented band led by the sultry songstresses Abby Dobson and Lara Goodridge, who not only sing in French, but also playfully switch in and out of Parisian accents during between-song banter. Mostly peforming covers of 20th century French tunes, they unexpectedly wedge in a mashup of Jeff Buckley and Edith Pierre, which was born out of a Jeff Buckley tribute show the French cover band were strangely invited to perform in.
Perhaps better suited to a smoky, intimate French bar rather than a massive steel frame stage on a hot Adelaide day, it was an enjoyable enough performance, but lacking a certain, je ne sais quoi?
