Review – Dilruk Jayasinha is Kind of a Big Dil
Do you ever wonder why there are so many hipsters? Discussions on the validity of the term aside, it’s because everyone loves being the person who ‘called it’ with something that’s popular. I had it for a while with Linkin Park – until they were no longer popular. Maybe they still are? I dunno, I stopped listening after ‘Meteora’ – and I’m going to throw my hat in again right now.
Dilruk Jayasinha is going to do big things.
‘Dilruk Jayasinha is Kind of a Big Dil’ is Dilruk’s first festival show. It’s raw, rough around the edges, and the pacing needs a lot of work, but it delivers more than a lot of the people you see trotted out for Galas every year.
At the core of this show is a comedian with a keen eye for timing and a damn good sense of when to twist the setup in to the reveal, when to twist back for another reveal, and when to let the audience fill in the blanks on their own.
Festival shows are a big risk for comedians, and Dilruk’s choice of venue was… a little unwise in seating capacity for a first gig. However, if you ever wanted to know what it feels like to see a rising star of comedy right out of the gate… this will be the place to find out.
Dilruk is performing every night until Sunday the 20th
