10 Quick Qs – David Quirk
1. What, where, when and how much?
David Quirk – Skater Dater
Garden Of Unearthly Delights in The Spare Room
2 – 8 MAR | 9.30pm
FRI, SAT and SUN $30 | WED and THU $25 | PREVIEW 2 – 3 MAR $20
2. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less:
It’s about the highs and woes of being a professional comedian who’s also worked in a skateboard shop for 14 years. Oxymoron.
3. A quote/moment that stands out from your show?
“I want you moving inside me” was something my friend Rob said to me to get me into skateboarding. It actually made sense. We were 15.
4. Is heckling allowed?
It’s not not allowed, but it’s never encouraged. Unless you’re at that show “Heckle”, of course, in which case, you should Heckle. It’s like selling bongs, they can’t stop you buying one but they wish they could.
5. What is your role in the show?
Sole performer, plus writer and liver of the material.
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I would like to fight ISIS.
7. If you could put on (or be in) any show/band in the world, which one would it be?
I would reunite Ween, if it be their will.
8. Why would someone not come see your show?
Because they are tasteless greyhound racers.
9. In your opinion, what is the worst show/movie you’ve ever seen and why?
[Editor’s note: SPOILER ALERT]
Since it’s still fresh in my mind, I’ll have to say the film “Birdman”.
The all star cast, the continuous take that wasn’t a continuous take, that Raymond Carver would turn in his grave over it, that it implodes under its own cleverness and doesn’t know what it’s doing, the way “birdman” talks to Michael Keaton as teenage exposition and that he flies away then the credits roll. Those are some of the reasons I was mad at Birdman.
10. Besides your show, what’s your pick for the Fringe/Garden?
Adrienne Truscott’s “One trick pony”
Bryony Kimmings “Fake it til you make it”
Sam Simmons & Dr Brown “Ceremony”
