Review – A Little Less Conversation Remix
Dave Callan is a funny guy. He’s been in the comedy game for over a decade now, he knows what he’s doing. This show fell a little flat for me. Don’t get me wrong, the crowd were laughing from the get-go, he had them engaged as soon as he stepped on stage. But sometimes I think people assume a seasoned performer is going to deliver, so the laughs come even if he’s not telling a joke.
What’s most impressive about the show is Callan’s stamina. The man can actually pole dance. Legit. This is physical comedy, dancing steadily for over an hour, interspersed with shtick on the history of various choreography. His athletic prowess is remarkable and his words are funny, I did laugh. But it’s just so uninspiring, a show you’d do at home, something stupid your mates would dream up. I mean, raise your hand if you haven’t ever re-enacted a video clip or created a dance routine to a cheesy pop song you love.
If you enjoy slapstick comedy then by all means go to this show, you’ll more than likely love it. After all, it was nominated for best comedy at Adelaide Fringe 2013. I just expected a little bit more from a show The Age touted as “fascinating”, and a lot more from the man himself.
