Constantinople is about the rise and fall of an empire, realised in the show with a miniature gold paper-mache model and a few oddities such as a pepper-grinder and bath for ‘orgies’. This sketch comedy show holds on very loosely to the central story, taking its audience to discotheques and entertaining them with horse gags.
Created by two New Zealand lads, Trygve Wakenshaw and Barnie Duncan, Constantinople has a lot of good things going for it. A few holes in the narrative and clumsy script transitions don’t deter from the hilarious sounds, Wakenshaw’s tight mime skills and the plethora of ideas make it worth a look.
