Nadeah: Venus Get Even is like a night on bad drugs. Not bad in the “oh my god insects are burrowing into my skull” sense, bad as in so mild that you sit around pretending that everything is trippy and amazing, but in reality you’re a little bored.
Nadeah seems to be trying very hard to be quirky, and she does periodically threaten to enter into interesting territory, but for the most part it’s all a bit blunted. Aside from some clumsy lyrics the music itself is decent enough: a curious mishmash of pop, rock and classical performed with enthusiasm and verve.
Unfortunately though the persona Nadeah presents isn’t nearly as charming or zany as the show needs it to be. It didn’t help that the audience was a bit flat – although this is a bit of a chicken or the egg scenario – nor that the sound levels were a little out of whack. Maybe just buy the CD.
