Adelaide Fringe 2013 is Coming!
Judging by the full program launch held at the Fringe warehouse, the Adelaide Fringe of 2013 is looking to be the biggest yet! Fringe performers of all species gave a taste of shows to come. Pirates, French waiters, indigenous dancers, soloists and choirs, hula-hoopers, table tennis players and live artists greeted guests as only 20 of the 930 anticipated events.
An opening song by Fringe ambassador and well-known ringleader of excitement, Paul McDermott kicked off the morning’s proceedings. This impressively musical introduction was followed by Fringe Director Greg Clarke’s introduction of the 2013 Fringe program. Due to be released on the 5th of January 2013, there are truly some gems waiting to be discovered within.
It really won’t be easy to choose from the 114 cabaret shows, 32 circus and physical theatre shows, 107 theatre productions, 254 comedy events, 25 dance shows, 7 film events, 197 music concerts and 105 art exhibitions being held in the maddest of all months, March. With a special mention to the new children’s events section, the diversity has expanded so that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Fringe weekly awards will go to the best events in that category, promising to ease the selection process for audiences. Punters can breath easy knowing there will now be no booking fees, with all costs integrated into the advertised price. And if you don’t know if your Aunt Fay would rather see death-defying stuntmen or gentle soul sounds, the new Fringe vouchers make are a perfect gift. There is no excuse for everyone of Adelaide and beyond to not get a little artsy, have a giggle, shed a tear, and immerse themselves entirely into that good old contagious Fringe spirit.
And to conclude the Fringe shenanigans, Pete Murray, The Whitlams and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will soothe exhausted audiences at the Fringe closing night held at the one of the new outdoor live music venues, The Depot.
