$20 from Mum!
Sweet!
But to get that $20 Matt Vecchio needs to complete Battletoads, one of the hardest video games ever made.
Seriously, this is the basis for this show, Matt playing his Nintendo to score $20 from his Mum. He has also dragged along a group of friends to dress and act as characters from the game plus there is a performance from the BattleToads live band. Surprisingly, Matt is able to hold the audience’s attention with his amusing chit-chat while still making it through the hardest levels. His support cast (a group of his friends) could put a bit more oomph into their ‘performances’, there is so much fun to be had with the trash talking from the ‘bosses’.
This show is an example of what I love about the Fringe, odd ideas made into a show, not at all polished but still entertaining and ‘worth it’. Even if you only have a passing interest in retro gaming, get along to see this show.
