Trygve Wakenshaw is Squidboy: a curious created who lives in the world of his imagination. In the basement of the Tuxedo Cat we meet this man on an empty stage, devoid of props or set. We are welcomed into Squidboy’s mind, invited to follow him on a cuckoo journey of surreal misadventure.
Physical theatre and mime is an intricate process that Wakenshaw pulls off with aplomb. His audience is immediately entranced, enthralled and intrigued by where they are going to be taken next. We see Squidboy on a date, on the run and in a duel as the show moves along at a cracking and chaotic pace. Each section of the show is hilarious, high energy and lots of fun.
This intimate audience was clearly charmed by this odd entertainer in the squid costume. It’s just his imagination we’re told but it’s an absolutely delightful place to be. If you are a fan of Dr Brown and Vachel Spirason of Slow Clap (who are missing at Tuxedo Cat this year) then you’re certain to love the company of Squidboy.
