Review – Songs From Hollywood’s Golden Era

Evidently the ‘Golden Era of Hollywood’ spans about fifty years but I’m not complaining about that. This was a very cool concert featuring a pair of deliciously gorgeous vocalists who sang with perfect pitch and made each of the very well-known songs their own. Bee Townsend kicked off with Charlie Chaplin’s ‘Smile’ and rendered the song with some lush styling, she won everyone’s heart in the audience and then introduced Katrina Caton who kept the mood smooth with her glorious voice. The band were faultless under the musical direction of Alan Turner who played piano, sax and flute through the concert and added panache to the impeccable work of Sean Duncan on bass, John Frangos on drums and George Grifas on guitar.
The audience displayed no restraint applauding the smoky riffs and solos as well as the outstanding vocalists. They were calling for more even when there was no more to be had. This concert could have easily gone on and on, but all good things must come to an end. If I had to give it a star rating I’d ask for extra stars to allocate. Yes, it was that good! A truly great show.
Thanks for your well informed, concise & positive review. The Speakeasy crew hope to play a longer run next time so that we can benefit from increased interest & audience following reviews such as yours.
Cheers,Alan Turner.
