WOMAD – The Cat Empire (Australia)
I’ve endeavoured to try to think of an adjective that will do justice to the excitement that The Cat Empire bring to the stage every time they perform. But unfortunately, it is one of those thing that you really have to get out there and experience for yourself because no words can describe the enigmatic phenomenon that are The Cat Empire. As Australia’s favourite ‘indie’ act for the most part of the last decade, not only have they consistently delivered great music, they have also enchanted audiences at their high-octane gigs.
Their gig at Womad was a perfect example of why they’re such a universally appreciated band. Not only did they play their breakout hits (Hello, The Chariot, Two Shoes) and new music (Brighter than Gold), but they also ventured where very few bands dare to go – the unknown gems (The Darkness). Their reward was in the fact that almost no audience member was left unsatisfied. Every person was lost in the joyous sounds and a large proportion were dancing like a throng of possessed souls.
If you’ve never been to a Cat Empire gig before, do yourself a favour and get a ticket to the next one – it’s definitely an experience you don’t want to miss.
