Do you ever have those moments when you realise that a lot of people know about something that has never even crossed your radar? I get that all the time and ‘I Love Green Guide Letters‘ is certainly no exception. The Supper Room of the Town Hall was packed and when the show started with a cavalcade of self-referential jokes, it was clear that I was probably on my own in my naivety.
It turns out that the popularity of the show is well deserved, with host Steele Saunders using the Green Guide Letters to great effect to question the rotating panel of guests, which this week included Triple J DJ Tom Bollard, Eurovision commentator (and, as it turns out, extreme building enthusiast) Sam Pang, and one of my personal comedic heroes, Tony Martin of D Generation and the Late Show fame.
Having only moved from Adelaide very recently, I’d not experienced the Green Guide, or its glorious letters, at all until I saw this show and I get the feeling that this podcast is the only way to actually enjoy the experience, in the same way that watching ‘The Room‘ needs to be done in the company of drunk friends.
The I Love Green Guide Letters podcast is recording every Saturday until the 20th at the Melbourne Town Hall and I’d recommend booking ahead to ensure tickets, if the crowd at the first one was anything to go by.
