This year’s Law Revue is a comedy sketch show not to be missed. Key strengths and hefty laughs come from its satirical skits, role plays and even mini musical moments on current events. It’s a show charged with cracking pace and comic timing with one joke following even bigger chortles. Some of the best role plays let the audience into the quirky and ironic mind sets of some Australia’s political leaders and even into the psyches of the everyday person. Melbourne’s unique culture doesn’t escape their radar either, and you laugh seeing this mirror held up to what we do. It also manages to tackle difficult issues with frivolous wit that only lawyers can pull off.
In these acts, you enter into an imaginary contract of suspending disbelief, and start to trust one crazy premise and then the next and before you know you’ve signed over your giggles trust. The absurdity of some scenes and the punchy movements burn on and audience participation adds to the comic spice. The puppetry scene, not to be spoiled is one of my personal favourites.
The actor’s movement on the stage also provide fun and variety, and nullifies the idea that lawyers can’t boogie. This crew has skills.
Such a farcical and hilarious ride leaves you thinking and before you can say guilty it’s over and worth every minute.
These lawyers are not guilty for being uncharitable either with profits going to a worthy charity. Director Max Paterson and Producers Sarah Zelezniko and James Kearney and the talented Team have set a great precedent that other comics would be very happy to follow.
