There were possibly one too many ukuleles in this show or perhaps too few cellos but somehow this was not the performance it had the potential to be. Sadly this is one to avoid.
The juxtaposition of cello and ukuleles scream humour, and so it could have been but somehow the performers where not able to pull it off. It takes a sharp wit and an astute intellect to spontaneously generate lyrics and a melody on the spot. The audience pick a genre and subject and yell it at the musicians, who create the performance from there.
There are so many ways in which this performance could be good and yet it was not. Musically these performers had the ability and I wish they had been able to use their obvious talent yet they were unable to pull it together. Perhaps if there had been some rehearsed numbers so that they could guarantee some humour the performance would have been had something to hang on to. Instead the comedy was lame and never actually hit the mark.
In comedy there is a fine line between hilarious and unfunny. Often it is in the editing and refining of lines and timing that bring flat sad words around to clever side-splitting lines. 2 Ukuleles and a Cello would have done well to draft and redraft their material so as to pull off what could have been a funny performance.
I wish I could recommend this one but it just wasn’t funny.
