10 Quick Qs – Eddie Ifft
American comic Eddie Ifft is gracing Adelaide Fringe once again with his new show Train Wreck. For the sake of the public interest we asked the controversial questions.
1. Describe your show Twitter-style, 140 character or less!
A no-holds-barred, relentless, no time 2 breath escapade. Bones will be broken & muscles will be pulled. Oh I was talking about my sex life.
2. Do you feel pressured to be funny at family gatherings?
Not at all. Everyone in my family is much funnier than me anyway. Everyone in my family talks at the same time, so nobody listens. That’s why I had to get on a microphone on the stage in the spotlight so I could get some attention.
3. Is this your first Adelaide Fringe? If so, what are you most looking forward to? If not, what is your least favourite thing about the festival?
I’ve done the Fringe many times. My least favorite thing about the fringe would probably be all the partying. I can’t handle it. Going out every night, having fun every single night. How do I do it?
4. What was the most challenging aspect about preparing your show?
This year in order to get my show right, I put myself into solitary confinement so I could focus. I moved to Nepal and lived in a monastery and wrote the show among monks. The only problem is monks aren’t funny. So I only came up with jokes about farting while meditating.
5. If you could be any character in any movie, who and what would it be?
Probably Spider-Man because I enjoy wearing spandex and going out at night incognito.
6. Who’s your biggest comedic idol?
Kim Jong Un. The hair, the height, the uniform, the attitude: he’s the whole package.
7. Is heckling allowed?
Most comedians would say no, but I strongly encourage it. I like the show to go off in different directions where I don’t know what is going to happen. It also makes it exciting.
8. What’s your favourite Internet-related guilty indulgence?
Wow this is personal. I’ve been donating money every month to feed a hungry girl in Estonia. She’s 22 years old and I get to see her on a WebCam to check up on her. She can’t even afford clothes.
9. What is the biggest accolade you’ve received from one of your shows?
A Japanese woman in New York once told me that my show was funnier than the Broadway show Cats and she couldn’t even speak English.
10. What other Fringe show are you most excited to catch up with?
I like the Phatcave and any show where women are scantily dressed and hang from a pole. Oh wait I’m talking about the Crazy Horse I don’t think that’s in the Fringe.
Train Wreck is showing from February 14.
