10 Quick Qs – Amy Michaels
We sat Amy Michaels down for an interview (or, at least, another woman by the same name) and asked her the tough questions.
1. Describe your show Twitter-style, 140 character or less!
A cabaret show full of witty tunes, toe-tapping jazz and tongue-in-cheek burlesque. This hilarious 6-piece band turns jazz on its head. ‘Amy Michaels & the Good Time Girls’ is not to be missed. [53 characters over! tsk. – Ed]
2. Is this your first time to Adelaide Fringe? If so, what are you most looking forward to? If not, what aspect are you least looking forward to?
This is our second year at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. What’s not to love at the Adelaide Fringe? I think once this rain buggers off, it’ll all be roses and Good Times!
3. Which film did you re-watch too many times as a child?
Aladdin when I was really small. I knew every word off-by-heart and would annoy my friends every time we watched it.
4. What was the most challenging aspect about preparing your show?
Charting everything up for the ‘girls’ takes ages! Writing songs is the easy bit!
5. Which instrument have you never got round to learning?
Guitar. I hit the F chord and gave up, my fingers just don’t DO that!
6. Who’s your greatest cabaret idol?
Bette Midler. She is the epitome of entertainment. And who doesn’t love a bit of ol’ trashy bags herself.
7. Is heckling allowed?
Of course! I love a good heckler.
8. What’s your favourite Internet-related guilty indulgence?
Trying to get the other Amy Michaels’ off bloody Google! I wrote “Google Me” about the experience. Ugh. From a self-titled tart, to a Brazilian drag queen, us Amy Michaels’ around the world have got it made. No firewomen or astronauts in THIS bunch. I think I should gather all of us together and make a show with us all.
9. What is the biggest accolade you’ve received from one of your shows?
We were chosen as ‘Five of the Best’ at Adelaide Fringe 2013 by the Adelaide Advertiser, which was pretty nice!
10. What other Fringe show are you most excited to catch up with?
I want to check out the Vaudevillians. They were just up in Brisbane and I heard great things about it up there.
The Good Times Girls are playing until March 2nd.
