ITS all in the title really.
Imagine a small child at play in his room pretending to be a squid, jumping from one whimsical adventure to the next. Now swap that small child with a towering, bearded actor, and you have Squidboy.
Trygve Wakenshaw, of company Theatre Beating, explores an ocean of possibilities using the power of his imagination, a power only matched by his prowess for physical comedy. With little to nothing in the way of set and props, he dreams up a dazzling array of strange situations and charming characters that you better hope you don’t get too attached to. The show can feel a bit directionless at times, but in some ways this only adds to the charm of it all.
A great show for old and young alike, Squidboy is a lighthearted piece of theatre that will leave you with a smile on your face – provided you have an imagination, that is.
This inventive and imaginative character is one of the finest original ideas I’ve seen this Fringe. Don’t miss it. – Ed
