Heckler’s pro-tip: not worth your time.
The audience’s pro-tip: not worth your time.
When we mention the audience’s pro-tip, we are speaking on behalf of those who walked out before the show had ended, approximately 1/3, we would say. In fact, one audience member chimed in their 2 cents before they left, “should’ve kept it short mate”. Cheesy, yes, but great advice.
Look, this show had potential. It really, really did. Imaan is a relatively charming guy who has a concept that could be VERY funny. But the execution was poor, the jokes were sub-par and the guests weren’t much better.
Imaan’s show, Bigger than Jesus, is basically framed around Jesus (played by Imaan) talking to a cliche God voice about controversial issues (think gay marriage, sex, you name it). He then makes the odd crude joke and then invites a guest to come and do a set, showcase style. The guests were average comedians who, let’s be honest, probably didn’t put on their best because they weren’t particularly taken by the show either.
The highlight of the show is definitely a pre-recorded video of Imaan running around Melbourne’s CBD scaring unassuming pedestrians walking across Swanston Street. And that’s…about it.
To say Imaan isn’t funny would be unfair and Heckler thinks that perhaps Imaan’s shows in the future would be worth a see. This one, however, is not.
I can’t believe The Advertiser gave this show 3 stars! – Ed
