I wasn’t sure what to expect from East End Cabaret – was it meant to be set in East Germany, some kind of black comedy play within a play that would end up annoying me and making me feel dumb?
Luckily from the moment I got to the venue it was clear I was actually in for a treat. Red Bennie’s is the perfect setting for this bizarre, sexy act which managed to make everyone in the audience at least giggle, from suited-up nannas to laid back tradies. Without giving too much away, it’s an old-school cabaret diva and her pet ‘freak’ getting to know the audience through sharing some of their more personal stories in musical form.
Many of the most memorable parts of the show came in the form of audience participation gags – this is definitely not the show to get front row seats for if you’re shy. This duo take the intimacy of the cabaret environment to a whole new level, literally forcing some audience members to loosen up and see the funny side of a few deep dark sexual situations.
TL;DR: Dark cabaret musical act brings the sexy LOLs.
Heckler reckons you should definitely see it.
