2. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less.
An oddly charming squid fills the stage with imaginary friends, flora and fauna until the tentacles of his mind get tangled.
3. A quote/moment that stands out from your show?
I don’t want to give the ending away, but the ending is pretty special.
4. Is heckling allowed?
Playing along is allowed, but heckling tends to be destructive and removed from the action of the show. I’d love it if people got so wrapped up in the show that they blurt out help to Squidboy, but yelling “hey Squidboy, you’re inaccurate!” is mean. Don’t do it.
5. What is your role in the show?
I’m a squid. I also invent all other characters (and i made the show entirely by myself).
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’m really happy being what I’m being at the moment; a great guy who makes shows, has friends, travels the world. The only thing I’d want more is if i could do all this as well as spending heaps of time my beautiful lady.
7. If you could put on (or be in) any show/band in the world, which one would it be?
I’d love to have a go at playing Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron, in Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth. But maybe I’m still about 10 or so years away from doing that.
8. Biggest accolade/compliment you’ve received about your show?
This little dude called Otis (Hi, Otis!) came and saw the first preview. I think he was maybe 6 years old? At the end of the show we had a great chat. He told me about all the stuff he’d seen in the play (some things real, some things imaginary) and said “At the beginning I felt scared, but then I felt brave”. Then he told me about the differences between the picture of me in the poster of Squidboy, and me in real life.
9. Why would someone not come to see your show?
Because they’re jaded and mean.
10. Besides your show, what’s your pick for the Fringe?
The hilarious, absurd and utterly baffling Constantinople (Here, I should declare a little conflict of interest: I am also in Constantinople). Also, you should see Dr Brown (Brown Brown Brown Brown, Befrdfgth), Mr Bunk (Slapdash Galaxy or Swamp Juice), and Eric’s Tales of the Sea.
